THE BEAUTY SPOT : Lipstick names..

I've always thought a woman's choice of lipstick was purely down to color. I favor a strong red (Ruby Woo) and a bright color (Girl About Town) and a lack of moisture and matte finish (Diva)...however one woman has produced a paper that claims we are more attracted to lipstick names then color....

The paper is entitled 'Truly toffee and Raizin hell : A textual analysis of  lipstick names.' by Professor Debra Merskin. She examined over 1,722 lipsticks from 52 popular brands and names to form a pattern.  I've often wondered who has the job of naming lipsticks and do they enjoy their job? I imagine its like being a kids TV presenter where you have to be happy all the time.

Here is the breakdown of how we choose our lipstick names :
  • Food: 24%
  • Color: 20%

  • Sex and Romance: 10%
  • Elements and Minerals: 9%

  • Emotions and Characteristics: 8%

  • Other: 8%

  • People and Names: 5%
  • Flowers: 5%

  • Places: 4%

  • Objects: 3%

  • Darkside: 2%

  • Arts and Media: 1%
  • Birds and Animals: 1%

  • Times and Seasons: <1%
Funnily enough MAC actually have a color called Darkside - which I also wear - HA!  Weird, I'm not sure how my choices fall into this but its certainly interesting....
