I have to throw something in here! I was going to talk about the importance of a good skincare routine and suggest a few products that I recommend. However, I think what might be a better idea right now is to share a few instances where even I have gotten it very wrong.
I am not going to bitch out the products that were responsible because its just my skin. Another person could try them and find them wonderful. They are great products that do work - it just highlights the importance of getting it right.
Take a few minutes to talk to someone who knows about skin care. I often say to people that you can save money on lipstick and eyeshadows but its worthwhile putting extra care into your skin care and foundations to avoid damaging your skin. Speaking as someone who has been suffering from a reaction all week - trust me on this one!!!!
SKINCARE REACTION NUMBER ONE : Over cleanse
I was given a small sample of this product to use in my daily routine. I don't normally use cleansers like this because they don't seem to agree with my skin. However I gave it a go. I only used it twice at night before bed - both time moisurising my skin using my usual products. It took two days before my skin went completely dry, sore, red, a rash came out on my cheeks and any product placed on the skin felt like agony. My eyes were streaming and the skin felt tight. I left all products off my skin for two days to compensate and let the skin breathe. The skin needs to keep some natural oil on it to keep it healthy. I had managed to strip off all the natural oil as well as the excess.
I am now using tinted moisturiser as it still hurts my skin to put anything strong on it. I am not ready for foundation but I am back to work on Thursday so need to be foundation ready. I keep using light moisturisers and creams too. The downside of over cleansing the skin is that when you remove the natural oil - the skin gets confused and makes even more oil to compensate. This means that you end up with spots, blemishes and patches. Which I have now. I love my life.
Needless to say that the cleanser has been ditched!!!
SKINCARE REACTION NUMBER TWO : Over moisturizing
I had been given a brand new serum to use. I was excited because I loved the brand that the serum came from and I had never used a serum before. I had used this a few times and woken up with gorgeous soft skin. So I felt confident popping it on my skin before going to bed one night - I had a date the next night and had gone through the whole skincare routine. I popped a small amount of this onto my hands and rubbed it in. The next day I woke up with a horrible reaction all down the sides of my nose. I had broken out all over the bridge of my nose. It was painful. I almost cancelled the date before I thought 'I'm a make-up artist, I can hide this' and rushed out to get concealer.
So those are my horror stories. Well, the ones I can remember! Both of which have happened within the past six months too! Expert my arse!!!!!
