Since I can't afford Electric Elephant this year, I have decided to throw myself head first into exploring Ireland's festivals, first up is Cork X Southwest in Lissard in West Cork. I'm getting excited about this as not only will I be celebrating my birthday, but I get to see Patti Smith!!! I've had a mad liking of Patti Smith since I experienced her album Horses at a young age. Being raised in a family where 70's rock appreciation is considered as important as education and table manners, I had to be there.
So I've got my ticket, my tent, my drink and more importantly my sanity prepared. I just have to find people willing to go now! Sod it, it's totally punk rock to experience festivals on your own and have a great time! I'm going to go wild!
It's important to me since I grew up in West Cork once I moved to Ireland as a pre teen and I have to say there was nothing like this as I was growing up. So if I can support an event like this in all it's glory, then I will. So that there will be more events like this in the future and people who have alternative music tastes will have something to do in West Cork besides travelling to Cork city every weekend to find like minded people. Like we used to do.
